I’ve been working as a psychotherapist since 2009. I’ve seen, and continue to see, a very diverse range of people. People who come to see me have been suffering in many different ways, and it’s my job to help bring clarity and facilitate the growth you are trying to achieve.
Some people who come to see me are depressed, or anxious, others angry, having relationship or work problems. Many struggle to pinpoint quite how they are suffering. I see people from every walk of life, sexual orientation and cultural background.
For the most part, I find that people are looking for help in one of two ways, at least to begin with. Some would like to work quickly and intensively to gain new perspectives and understanding, often with one or two pressing issues they are struggling with. Others are looking for a longer, deeper therapy that will allow for more organic change.
There is no substitute, in my view, to longer term therapy. In essence, in that environment, we are engaged with the growth of the self, and that is not something that can be achieved overnight, or even in a few sessions. True change can happen, relief of symptoms can happen, a greater sense of peace can be achieved, but they take time. I offer brief therapy because this is useful as an introduction, it suits people’s modern lives, we can begin our work…but it is no substitute for the long-term work of psychotherapy.
Psychodynamic therapy
Psychodynamic therapy is sometimes simply referred to as “talk therapy”, or “depth therapy”. Usually, a therapy that goes into greater depth will last a period of months and years, rather than weeks. The meetings are generally once per week, but this can vary with needs and the decisions you make with your therapist.
Working in depth means we are able to better address core issues that may have been with us for some considerable time. We will together deepen your self-knowledge and self-integration over time and with the experience of working with an empathic, non-judgmental and experienced therapist.
This is a conversation that evolves over time, and in a successful therapy a lessening or elimination of troubling symptoms can result. This can leave us feeling more grounded, re-vitalized and with a greater sense of inner peace.
